A mirror that is 150 mm narrower than the vanity beneath it looks like a mistake in every photograph, and a mirror whose bottom edge sits 1,000 mm above the floor makes anyone over 180 cm stoop to shave. Width relative to the vanity, and mounting height, cause more regret than shape, frame or price. Settle the geometry first and choose the style afterwards.
The rest of this guide is the practical version of bathroom mirror design ideas: the measurements that hold up in real rooms, the lighting specifications that decide whether a mirror is useful or merely decorative, and the construction details that keep it looking clean after years of steam.

A mirror does two jobs. It reflects the face of whoever is using the basin, and it bounces light back into a room that rarely has enough daylight. Both jobs are governed by numbers rather than taste.
The table below turns those rules into numbers a fitter can work from.
| Vanity width | Mirror width | Mirror height | Bottom edge above counter |
|---|---|---|---|
| 600-750 mm | 500-700 mm | 600-800 mm | 200-300 mm |
| 800-1,000 mm | 700-950 mm | 700-900 mm | 250-350 mm |
| 1,200 mm, double basin | Two 450-550 mm mirrors, or one 1,050-1,150 mm mirror | 700-900 mm | 250-350 mm |
| 1,500-1,800 mm, double basin | Two 550-650 mm mirrors, or one 1,300-1,500 mm mirror | 800-1,000 mm | 300-400 mm |
Two details sit outside the table. On double-basin vanities, two separate mirrors let each user adjust their own glass, while one long mirror flatters a symmetrical layout. Where the mirror meets a window wall, leave at least 200 mm between mirror edge and window frame so the two do not compete for reflection.
A well-lit mirror is a lighting decision that happens to be attached to a mirror. Three specifications do most of the work.
Choose 3,000-4,000 K for the mirror's own light. Below 3,000 K, skin tones turn yellow and makeup becomes guesswork; above 5,000 K, bathrooms feel clinical. Colour rendering matters more than most buyers expect: a CRI of 90 or higher keeps foundation and beard lines readable, while a cheap panel at CRI 80 flattens warm tones and hides redness.
An edge-lit backlit mirror throws a soft halo onto the wall and flatters the room, but it lights the wall more than the face. Front-lit strips, or a plain mirror flanked by two sconces at eye level, put usable light where it is needed. For shaving or makeup, front lighting wins; for a powder room, backlighting is plenty.
An LED mirror intended for a bathroom should carry at least IP44 protection, with the driver potted or mounted remotely, and a demister pad rated around 30-50 W for a 600 x 800 mm panel. Ask where the driver sits, because heat and steam collect behind the glass. Driver placement is the most common reason a mirror fails in year three instead of year ten.

One idea worth copying from shower rooms: repeat the metal finish. Black, gold and chrome appear across shower screens, enclosures and tapware, and carrying one of those finishes into the mirror frame makes a small bathroom look deliberate rather than assembled.
The mirror is usually the only flat surface in a bathroom, which is why so many designs end up hiding storage behind it.
Custom Mirror Cabinets for Bathroom StorageCustom mirror cabinets combine a mirror with concealed bathroom storage, suited to OEM/ODM discussions on style, packaging, and after-sales service.View Product →Steam is the slowest and most expensive enemy of any mirror design. Four details separate a mirror that lasts from one that clouds permanently at the edges within two years.
Water vapour also attacks the cabinet below the mirror. This note on preventing water vapour erosion on PVC bathroom cabinets with LED mirrors walks through the seal points that fail first, which is useful when the mirror and cabinet are specified together.
Mirror design does not stop at the glass edge. Vanity cabinets are commonly 450-500 mm deep, and the basin centre should sit within about 75 mm of the mirror's centre line, or the composition looks off no matter how good the frame is. In a compact bathroom, a wall-mounted vanity with an integrated LED mirror keeps the floor clear, reduces the number of separate fixtures to align, and gives the room one continuous reflective surface instead of two competing ones.

Mirrors are fragile, and the cost of a failed shipment usually appears as claims rather than freight. A supplier that quotes tolerances, packaging and documentation up front is normally the one that also answers within 24 hours when something goes wrong. Our factory builds LED mirrors, mirror cabinets and vanities and also works from customer drawings or samples for OEM and ODM orders, exporting to more than 20 countries. You can review the range on our bathroom product pages before the specification is finalised.
A bathroom mirror affects light, storage, safety and the way a room photographs, all at once. Fix the numbers first: width matched to the vanity, bottom edge 200-300 mm above the counter, height enough to cover face and shoulders. Then choose 3,000-4,000 K lighting at CRI 90 or better, a finish that repeats the metal already in the shower area, and a construction with sealed edges and a realistic IP rating. Style is the last variable, not the first, and it is far easier to get right once the measurements are settled.
